WYNN - Eat Of The Week!

I have really developed a taste for Detroit Style Pizza over the past few years.  I mean it's always been delicious but after having a fantastic one in a small town in Upper Michigan a couple years ago when Windy and I got away for weekend, well its changed me.  (a bit dramatic, OK)   But is was really good!

So I found this recipe for a Detroit Style Pizza we can make at home, and it's really good!

Delicious!!

WYNN - Happy Mothers Day, Mom

SW small Logo This is my second Mothers Day without my mom and as time goes on, I find myself confirming more and more what I thought the day she passed, that things worked out the way they were supposed to.  My mom was 94, and had numerous physical problems at the end not the least of were dementia, and Alzheimer disease.  As sad as it was to see this once brilliant women reduced to that was very tough, but luckily in the grand scheme of things, all that didn't last all that long.  I'm very thankful for that.  She also had cancer she knew nothing about, and kidney disease she forgot about.  But, that's the kind of thing that happens to most of us at 94.

The last conversation we had with her was her asking, "Who was under Windy's chair?"   We smiled and knew the end was near, and it was.  Today, we look back and smile about it and Windy and I are glad for that particular visit on that day.

Your mom passing can be a tough thing, but when you add up a life very well lived and think about the amazing times she grew up in and what she saw near the end, you gain some perspective that she was here a long time and was blessed in that regard.  It's hard to really be sad about it when you add up the life lived and the amazing quality of it for 92 of 94 years, we should all be so lucky.  She was really never sick a day in her life.

My dad passing when I was 16 and he was 53 prepares you in a way that I hope you never have to know.  At that age when that happens, 53 seems very old and that's what you get here in this world.  But my mom taught me differently, by living well into her 90's and restoring some faith that life is indeed a long journey and is worth living the best way you can.  My mom didn't live the most glamorous life, but she led the life she wanted and that's the key.  She worked in upper education for 40 years, she starred as an actor in many plays over many years as she loved everything about live theater.  She taught people how to sing, and to speak in front of large groups.  She had great friends, and painted incredible works of art for the majority of her adult life that brought her and others great joy.

Even though my mom isn't here to celebrate with today, she and my dad set a good pace for us to follow.  My dad had a great zest for having fun and just life in general and his ended way too soon.  And my mom lived long enough to live out most every dream I think she had.

And both of those things are worth remembering today - or any day.

Happy Mothers Day to you if you are one, or if you're celebrating with yours!

Mega Star Randy Travis had a birthday a few days ago, and I thought it would be a great idea to look back at his remarkable career.  Randy Travis is a pivotal artist in our history as I feel he basically changed the direction of country so much he may have saved the format.  His influence shifted everything.

You know who else feels that way?  Garth Brooks - He also stated what I have said and written about for many years.  After you read my Randy Travis Profile, read my TWO part series on Who Saved Country Music  - written about 4 years ago.

Happy Birthday Randy Travis!

WYNN - Forgotten Jukebox - B-25

I Need More Of You  - The Bellamy Brothers  -  1985  (Album - Restless)

The Bellamy Brothers were an interesting act during their long chart run.  Their music was country, and pop country, but the gift of their music was - it's timeless.  Their hit songs would sound good in pretty much any era of country. This was their 8th number one song and they would record more. They will always be known for Let Your Love Flow, which is literally one of the biggest hit songs of the 20th century, but there was a lot more to them then that.  (Everyone on earth knows that song).  This is just a flat out nice song about how much he loves his woman, without being mushy, or sappy and there's nothing wrong with that. This just makes you happy.  Musically its slick guitar lick, wonderful arrangement and terrific backing vocals make this a real nice song.  The music they recorded should be remembered more, incredibly talented duo.  I don't know if they ever released a song I didn't like, and I played them all for many years.  They will be back here again in the Forgotten Jukebox. If you're not familiar with them get to know them, it's worth it.  I wouldn't steer you wrong.  (Read the comments as you listen - they are loved)

#34 - Justin Moore - Small Town USA - 2009

SW small Logo Justin Moore did a show with us here at WQMX before anyone really ever heard of him.  He was a last minute addition to I think a Luke Bryan charity show at Tangier. (And I think he tripped over Luke's guitar exiting the stage).  After he performed I recall a grown man about 40 in the back hallway talking with Justin almost in tears about how his music touched him while he was performing.  I never forgot that, and we've never forgotten Justin.  This song is about as good of a debut song as you can have.  This of course went #1 and should have.  This song found the perfect artist to record it, and sometimes it all just comes together. This song is still a real favorite of mine, and yours, and possesses that very rare gene of not wearing out its welcome. This song may be played on the radio for 20 more years.  It's highly relatable in every regard and builds nice momentum as all really good hit songs do. This was the springboard for Moore to go on great things.  I think a whole lot of new performers would have loved to have this gem.  Perfect song to launch a new artist.

Darius Rucker - Fires Don't Start Themselves

We have been playing this song for a couple weeks.  I'm a Darius Rucker fan. I love his easy sounding singing style that makes it all look and sound so easy. In this current era of singers over singing songs in all kinds of formats, it's nice to hear a true vocalist that completely understands that louder is not better, better is better.  Rucker knows where the notes are an finds them the first time with ease.  He is one of the best singers no matter what format you're talking about right now.  This is just a nice song that feels good to hear, and we need more of that right now.

After being away for a while, it's great to hear him back on the charts again -  Grab a coffee and earbuds the catch this nice new song.
