Next From Dierks Bentley: Something Real

Dierks Bentley has announced his follow up to his most recent #1 single "Gold". Dierks co-wrote "Something Real" with with Luke Dick, Ashley Gorley, HARDY and Ross Copperman in his happy place — in Colorado.

Dierks said in a press release, "I wrote this song out in Colorado where I really go to recharge and get closer to the source that being nature, those mountains and the great outdoors. I never thought it’d be a single really, ‘cause it’s such a personal song talking about how sometimes the things I feel aren’t things that I think would help to sell tickets, or…in that way. It’s more of a personal song, but I found in the past that songs like ‘I Hold On’ that are extremely personal have always been the ones that resonate most with fans.”

WYNN - #27 - Why Not Me - The Judds

Why Not Me - The Judds - 1984

SW small Logo I was a very young broadcaster in 1984 and working for WRMZ in Columbus where station was in the old Southern Hotel, downtown.  One day I was riding the "so-called elevator" to the seventh floor, top floor, with Tim from RCA Records, and two young women dressed up like you seldom see, I mean totally decked out.  We small talked on our short, but bumpy ride in a building going through major restoration. (We were all glad it made it to the top).  No one knew these two at all, but a few months later we all knew  - The Judds.  Their first single was a song called, Had A Dream, a quirky kind of song that had very moderate to very average success.  Mama He's Crazy was next and it was a #1.  They were noticed. Then this song hit, and went #1, and really solidified The Judds as a big-time force in country perching them to become incredibly successful and exceedingly influential over the next decade.  There are times that a song can decide if you're gonna hang around or not, and for me, this was that song for The Judds.  It's about perfect, timeless and sounds as good today as it did all those years ago.  I have always felt this song captured who they really were as much as any song they ever recorded.  This is as memorable as my elevator ride with them  -  then the completely unknown future superstars of our format.  Hall of Famers - Well deserved.

Say it isn't so :(

We had to know it was only a matter of time until this announcement was put out there but it's still sad. Early Monday evening, Pat Sajak announced this upcomming season (2023-2024) will be his last hosting "Wheel of Fortune". Vanna will be sticking around it seems and they will team her up with a new host. The two of them have been teamed together since 1983!

Sajak even surpassed Bob Barker (my all time favorite game show host) for the Guinness World Record for longest-running host of any game show in 2018-2019! It will be interesting to see how viewers take to a new host. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not so much...

Loving Day

I know I said I'd finish the colossal-log today but today is a very important holiday to me, Loving Day.

Loving day is a holiday that celebrates the legalization of interracial marriage in the United States with the Loving vs Virginia case. Mildred and Richard Loving were an interracial couple that fell in love in Virginia in the 60's. They got married in Washington D.C. where it was legal, but when they returned to Virginia their home was raided and they were arrested. Although they were sentenced to a year in prison, they were allowed to leave Virginia and avoid jail time as long as they didn't come back for 25 years. The Lovings moved to Washington D.C., but wanted to go home, so they decided to take action. Mildred wrote to Robert Kennedy, who referred them to the ACLU, who gave them lawyers, who started a case, that made it up to the supreme court, who finally voted in their favor 9-0. They could move back to Virginia, and anti-miscegenation was struck down. A huge step for interracial marriage, and for America in general.

Why is this an important holiday to me? Well I'm the product of an interracial marriage. I'm also always going to be in an interracial relationship with whomever I choose because of that. Being mixed comes with ups and downs that make me uniquely myself. I think that it's a part of me that's worth celebrating!

How can you celebrate? Well talking about it is a start! Take a moment to celebrate the relationship you're in or those around you! You can throw a party. You can also use this as a great opportunity to watch or read media about interracial relationships, like the movie Loving about the Lovings themselves. I also personally like Mixed-ish, and read Black, White, Just Right! By Marguerite Davol as a kid. You can also go to https://lovingday.org/ for more info.

Yay or Nay?

I usually stick to the old faithful products that I am used to.  I happened upon these the other day and heard Scott and Sarah talking about them. I decided to give them a whirl.  I wasn't holding out a lot of hope.  I like the tried and true Classic Oreo.

These were a pleasant surprise.  I don't think, I could/would go for them all the time.   It was a nice little change up.

Overall I would say, Yay.  But I am a cotton candy flavoring fan.  I think these as an ice cream sandwich would be pretty good.

My favorite thing with Oreo's are "Dirt Pie".

*Some people use pudding and gummy worms... *
I just take a graham cracker or oreo pie crust.  Fill it with Cool Whip and Smash up 10 or so Oreo's and mix in the Cool Whip.  It's light and quick.

Here are some other ideas for Oreo's Desserts.  Click Here

Now I want Oreo's!!!

WYNN - My Sunday Morning Song!

SW small Logo I love Jake Owen and his music. He's always a good time and this song is his latest fun summer song.  It's a mix, or remix what whatever you want to call it, of new and old as they channel On The Road Again, with On The Boat Again.  This seems to be the new trend in Nashville, or Mashville. Mashing. or mixing songs and some have had great success, ALA Cole Swindell recently with She Had Me At Heads Carolina.  We've done this before, actually Jake has done it before with the John Mellancamp song mix a few years ago. Even Kimberly Perry  has done it with her new song, which is actually her old song.  But Jake is always fun, and so is this new song.  You do have to wonder if more are on the way, especially with 90's country being so big.

FINALLY! After 3 weeks.

After three weeks, it FINALLY decided to rain again! Since Sunday was a rainy afternoon, I decided to go shopping for a few things I've been wanting to get for a little while now. I bought two new table lamps for my end tables in my living room. They are replacing free ones My ex and I got from my dad when we moved in together. Next I want to get a new coffee table. The one I have now is EXTREMELY wobbly. I half fell on it once, which really threw it off kilter. Honestly I'm surprised it is still usable...lol. I didn't find one today, but that gives me more reason to go shopping this week. I'm also trying to find new lights for my kitchen...just update a little from the 80s ;).

While I was shopping for lamps today, I stumbled across a couple cat toys that were on clearance!!! I figured why not. Let's see how Buttercup likes them. One is a track fo him to bat a ball around and chase it - even better...I am able to CHANGE the track around for him so it can be different! The other is a battery operated holder for a string and feather for him to bat around. It has unpredictable motions to keep him on his toes! Hopefully he enjoys them!
