WYNN - Eat Of The Week!

I have really developed a taste for Detroit Style Pizza over the past few years.  I mean it's always been delicious but after having a fantastic one in a small town in Upper Michigan a couple years ago when Windy and I got away for weekend, well its changed me.  (a bit dramatic, OK)   But is was really good!

So I found this recipe for a Detroit Style Pizza we can make at home, and it's really good!

Delicious!!

What I did over the past couple days

There was a lot that happened this weekend! It was Cinco de Mayo (one of my favorite days of the year), Cedar Point opened for the season, the Kentucky Derby was run, Charles III was coronated King! Dang, A busy couple days!!!

On Friday, I celebrated Cinco de Mayo by having dinner at my favorite TexMex/Mexican restaurant in this part of the country - Pancho's Southwest Grille in Green. Then on Saturday I watched some of my neighbors do yard work. Had no interest in doing any of my own though, LOL. Next, I had to help my mom clean out her gutters - a fun time was had by both of us...NOT! Then we went out to dinner afterward. I did not watch the derby or the coronation.

I kinda just took Sunday easy. I watched some TV and did some grocery shopping. LUCKILY, I did NOT screw up my ankle in the process this time! I'd call that a win :)

Now, it's on to the work week. Have a good week :)

WYNN - Happy Mothers Day, Mom

SW small Logo This is my second Mothers Day without my mom and as time goes on, I find myself confirming more and more what I thought the day she passed, that things worked out the way they were supposed to.  My mom was 94, and had numerous physical problems at the end not the least of were dementia, and Alzheimer disease.  As sad as it was to see this once brilliant women reduced to that was very tough, but luckily in the grand scheme of things, all that didn't last all that long.  I'm very thankful for that.  She also had cancer she knew nothing about, and kidney disease she forgot about.  But, that's the kind of thing that happens to most of us at 94.

The last conversation we had with her was her asking, "Who was under Windy's chair?"   We smiled and knew the end was near, and it was.  Today, we look back and smile about it and Windy and I are glad for that particular visit on that day.

Your mom passing can be a tough thing, but when you add up a life very well lived and think about the amazing times she grew up in and what she saw near the end, you gain some perspective that she was here a long time and was blessed in that regard.  It's hard to really be sad about it when you add up the life lived and the amazing quality of it for 92 of 94 years, we should all be so lucky.  She was really never sick a day in her life.

My dad passing when I was 16 and he was 53 prepares you in a way that I hope you never have to know.  At that age when that happens, 53 seems very old and that's what you get here in this world.  But my mom taught me differently, by living well into her 90's and restoring some faith that life is indeed a long journey and is worth living the best way you can.  My mom didn't live the most glamorous life, but she led the life she wanted and that's the key.  She worked in upper education for 40 years, she starred as an actor in many plays over many years as she loved everything about live theater.  She taught people how to sing, and to speak in front of large groups.  She had great friends, and painted incredible works of art for the majority of her adult life that brought her and others great joy.

Even though my mom isn't here to celebrate with today, she and my dad set a good pace for us to follow.  My dad had a great zest for having fun and just life in general and his ended way too soon.  And my mom lived long enough to live out most every dream I think she had.

And both of those things are worth remembering today - or any day.

Happy Mothers Day to you if you are one, or if you're celebrating with yours!

Russell Dickerson made his acting debut last night on the Fox series Call Me Cat. He didn't play a character, he played himself in the episode called "Call Me A Donut Wall", that found Russell showing up in a storyline surrounding series regular Max. He offered Max, who's played by Cheyenne Jackson, a life-changing career opportunity. But that's all I'll say so I don't spoil anything if you haven't watched yet!

What I did with my two days on the couch

Since I hurt my ankle Sunday and missed work Monday & Tuesday, I had some time to watch a few things on TV while I iced my foot. Several years ago I began watching different TV series start to finish in the order the episodes aired. I started with Doogie Howser and have since watched shows like Friends, Frasier, Schitt's Creek and Dawson's Creek among others.

Quite a long time ago, I started The Bob Newhart Show and never finished the final season. That changed this weekend. I finally finished season 6 and was able to add that to the list of TV series I have watched start to end. My next one is Dharma & Greg. It's the same story - I got within a few episodes of the end and then stopped. So, I started it again at the pilot episode and am going through the whole series again on HULU. I enjoy being able to say I have seen so many series in full.

I do these once in a while, when an artists birthday rolls around. Checking out the archives, I have never done a Top 5 list of my favorite Eric Church songs! That's about to change right now! This is going to be a really hard one because there are so many great songs, but these are 5 I could listen to on repeat!

Happy birthday to The Chief, Eric Church!

Mega Star Randy Travis had a birthday a few days ago, and I thought it would be a great idea to look back at his remarkable career.  Randy Travis is a pivotal artist in our history as I feel he basically changed the direction of country so much he may have saved the format.  His influence shifted everything.

You know who else feels that way?  Garth Brooks - He also stated what I have said and written about for many years.  After you read my Randy Travis Profile, read my TWO part series on Who Saved Country Music  - written about 4 years ago.

Happy Birthday Randy Travis!
