Today we will learn more about the Browns than we have in the past month. Today, the San Francisco 49ers come to town for a game that means a lot to the Browns. Not as much in the record or the standings, as the season is still young. But what we will learn is where the Browns are as a team, and an organization and if they have any real heart.
The Browns without saying it out loud (of course) have pushed all their chips into the middle and are thinking playoffs, a deep post season run, and possibly a Superbowl appearance. The leadership appears to be too worried about their own job security to actually utter those words, but their actions are consistent with a franchise thinking those thoughts. Today, they will face a team at home that's the kind of team they will have to deal with a few times to get to where they think they can go. There are a few of them, San Fran, Kansas City, Philly, Dallas, Buffalo, Miami at times.
But with all that football stuff said, I have to ask. What Are We Doing? What on earth is going on with Deshaun Watson? The team is trying very hard not to talk about his injury as if in denial. Situation normal. But the contradictions, half truths and silence, it's starting to look to me as if this may be an injury not related to actual football playing. Have you seen the actual pinpointed footage of the play where this significant injury was supposed to have happened? Yeah, me either. The last time Watson was on the field, he was beating a good defense and the ENTIRE football world was buzzing about how he was "back" and looked "comfortable." And the Browns were ready to take off. Now we have an injured QB that is being tight lipped and thrown under the bus seemingly at times, and is on the injured list. Now we have well.....I don't know what they really have after they gutted the QB room.
They also are learning the hard way how important Nick Chubb was. They gutted that room too as they are on the record as it's now running back by committee and now we can't run the ball. It's all very sad and disturbing that this organization is as myopic as it is. You can't control injuries no argue there, but you can control how you speak to your fans. And you are in complete control of the roster decisions you make and the direction you take. You know why San Francisco is so good? They are run by real "football people," with a great history, story and lineage. Top to bottom - Cased closed.
These guys with the Browns seem to have no sense of real honesty or decent communication skills to keep fans updated. Yes, they do owe it to them. It's just a bunch of word salad with the hopes that we are all too stupid to understand them or ask the really tough questions. I'm starting to think the possibility exists that the real truth may be hard to hear. More hard to hear news would be a nightmare for the Browns. Man up Browns. What is going on and What Are We Doing?
