This is a picture of me at about 6 months old with my grandparents (my dad's parents). I am showing this picture because today would have been my Grandpa's 108th birthday! Yes, he was born Feb. 16, 1916. It has always kinda blown my mind to think about the changes he saw in life before he died at 90 in the Summer of 2006.
He was born LESS than 4 years after the Titanic sank! He was born DURING World War I, and during the Woodrow Wilson administration. When my Grandpa was born, the most common car on the road was a Model T Ford - 55% of the cars on the road at the time were a Model T. THAT'S provided people had a car, as horse and buggy were still commonplace. Movies were all silent, outside of town most everyone used outhouses still. Women did not have the right to vote yet! I could go on but you get the idea.
What blows my mind even more, is that my Great Grandparents (Grandpa's parents) were born in the 1870's! Only about 10 years after the Civil War! That is thanks to 3 generations of later life babies :) lol. As I mentioned above, my Grandpa died in 2006 at the age of 90. He had gotten pretty frail by that point, but his mind was still sharp. In my early years, he taught me how to play Solitaire and I loved playing board games with both him and my Grandma. When I was 12, I even "DJ'd" their 50th wedding anniversary party. It was me playing songs from my cd collection on my boombox that you couldn't even hear 5 feet away! lol. It was pathetic! Anyway, happy birthday Grandpa!
