My issue with the NCAA tournament

San Diego State and Connecticut are playing Monday night for the men's NCAA basketball championship of 2023. The semifinals and the championship game are being played at NRG Stadium in Houston - home of the Houston Texans. My issue with the NCAA tournament is that since 1997, they play these 3 games in an NFL stadium. In my opinion, that's just way too big of a facility.

The seats are so far from the court itself. That's especially true if you're in the "nose bleed seats"! My other major complaint being since they only play in NFL stadiums with a roof, that immediately removes most NFL markets from the list of ever hosting the semis and final and therefore receiving the economic impact. Those markets are:

1. San Francisco

2. Denver

3. Kansas City

4. Green Bay (Milwaukee)

5. Chicago

6. Nashville

7. Jacksonville

8. Tampa

9. Miami

10. Charlotte

11. Cincinnati

12. Cleveland

13. Pittsburgh

14. Washington

15. Baltimore

16. Philadelphia

17. Buffalo

18. New York

19. Boston

Now, some of these NFL markets likely may never be chosen anyway (especially somwhere like Green Bay) simply for logistics. But look at some of these others! Nashville, Chicago, Miami, NEW YORK! I totally understand why they do it this way (economic benefit for the NCAA), but it's just something that gets me.

What a show, smh ;)

Again this Saturday night, I was looking for something to do. I was flipping through the channels on Pluto TV and remembered they have a channel dedicated to my mom's favorite show from high school...DARK SHADOWS!!!

So as you can probably tell, Butercup got all settled in my lap and we watched a good 3 hours of the show. If you're familiar with the show, they were in their 1897 storyline. And as always with the soap operas, virtually nothing happens in those 30 minute episodes. The show is so cheesy and low budget it's funny. Yet, you do kinda get sucked in...and I am not one who gets sucked into soap operas at all.

I remember going to see the movie with Johnny Depp in 2012 and thought that was not too bad. My mom and I enjoy watching the show looking for mistakes by the camera crew, actors, or both since it was such a low budget show. Either way, I can always sit and see what the Collins family is up to.

A very cool opportunity

Coming up on April 29th & 30th, The Soldiers & Sailors Monument on Public Square will offer the annual tunnel tours underneath the monument. These tunnels serve as the foundation for the monument and will have guided tours on these two days from 9-6.

If you have never been inside the Soldiers & Sailors Monument before...GO! It's really cool inside! I've been only once (and only in the memorial room), but it's a very interesting place. Built in 1893 and dedicated July 4,1894, it honors the almost 10,000 Cuyahoga County residents who served with the Union in the Civil War. Even if you don't get in on a tunnel tour, I definitely recommend visiting the Memorial Room (which is beautiful). That part of the monument is open year-round 9-5:30. Go check it out!!

The 2023-2024 Broadway season has been announced. The shows are:

- The Wiz

- Girl From North Country

- Mrs Doubtfire

- Funny Girl

- Company

- Back To The Future: The Musical

- MJ: The Musical

This is a lineup that has a couple shows that really interest me. First, I WILL be going to see Mrs Doubtfire. It is one of my all time favorite movies, and I cannot wait to see what they have done with the production of the movie. The other is MJ: The Musical. Michael Jackson was a musical genius! He wrote great music and was an amazing performer. This would be an intersting look into the making of a world tour of his as well as other events in his life around that time.

Great times at a local landmark...Playhouse Square.

An enjoyable Saturday night

I was flipping channels late Saturday night and saw on the horror movie channel, they were showing all of the "Scream" movies! They were at the very end of the first one and I was disappointed. Instead of rewinding it, I went and rented it on Youtube.

After that, I figured why not watch the second and third as well? So, I got comfy on the couch with Buttercup in my lap and watched the first three "Scream" movies back - to - back - to - back. Took about a total of 6 hours, but was a lot of fun and when it's 3:00 on a Sunday morning what else am I going to do? haha!

It reminded me why I love the series so much and now I want to watch movies 4 and 5 again, and watch number 6 again too! Maybe this weekend? We will see :)

Introducing The Sports Roundup

Starting today (Monday 03-27), I am introducing a new segment to the show - The Sports Roundup. It will be about 1 minute of some of the biggest sports scores and stories locally and nationally. I have casually been covering scores for quite some time now, and thought it was time to give sports the proper recognition it deserves.

Listen for The Sports Roundup every weekday with me at 12:50AM on WQMX!

Oops, there's a car there...

Chris Lane is looking for a good mechanic - and maybe a new lawn mower after an accident he had. He was recently out riding his lawn mower at home and crashed it into the back of an SUV parked in his driveway!! He hit the car pretty hard, as it did lurch forward when he made contact!

Turns out, he was steering with one hand and holding several garden tools with the other. That's why they always say 2 hands on the wheel! LOL. BTW, OF COURSE there is video and it was posted to his Instagram.

Read the story/watch the video here

Congratulations to 90 year-old Mr. Pickles and 53 year-old Mrs. Pickles of Houston on the birth of their 3 children! The catch: everyone is a Radiated Tortoise and they live at the Houston Zoo :). The Pickles have been together 27 years and this is a big win for the endangered species native to Madagascar.

The kids are named Dill, Gherkin, and Jalapeno!!! LOL. Now to us, 90 sounds VERY old to become a parent. Think of the species though...there are documented examples of them living to about 190 years old! So if you think about it, this is like a person having a baby around 40.

Again, congrats to the Houston Zoo!

What kind of patient are you?

When you get sick, how do you handle it? Are you the person that still manages to take care of everyone? Do you just deal with it? Are you the one that whines and complains non stop? Or, are you like Michael Ray and take some medicine (including IV fluids) and proceed to perform on stage at a couple concerts?!

That's right! Over the weekend, Michael Ray was suffering a bout of food poisoning. However, he had shows in Greenville,SC & Greensboro,NC. He did what he had to do. He received treatment from nurse staff and even posted a picture on Instagram just 3 hours before showtime getting IV fluids!!! He still made it on stage for both shows without cancelling or rescheduling.

I don't know about you, but if I had food poisoning I would just want to lay in bed and not move. Let alone get up off my tour bus and play a show on stage!! Good for him for powering through it!
