Back in the Saddle!

This past holiday weekend has been my longest break from work since beginning the overnight position on WQMX a few months back, and I sure made the most of it. Most everything I sought to do, I did.

Some highlights included spending time with my fiancée, visiting family and munching some delicious Thanksgiving food, watching my Dolphins add to their lead in the AFC East, watching the Buckeyes game, and getting my Christmas Tree! We went to Galehouse Tree Farm and got a beautiful Canaan fir. If you haven't gotten your live tree yet this year, I must recommend hitting this place up as their selection of good-looking trees is extensive and it's a fun holiday atmosphere. The spiced cider they sell is top notch too!

Anyhow, it was really great to step away from the mic for a few days and reset myself. I'm feeling great going into this week after having some fun throughout the extended weekend and I hope you enjoyed yourself as well! Thank you for reading this and listening in to the station, and have a good one!

Don't turn on your favorite local channel expecting to watch the Peanut's "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving". Apple acquired the rights to those holiday specials in 2020 putting an end to them airing on your local affiliates.

You will need to check it out on Apple TV+ and have a subscription. As a heads up... "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will be the same way. Not to mention "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" too. So don't forget! Happy Thanksgiving!

Wrasslin' Wednesday

Survivor Series 2023 is Saturday!

The WWE after keeping straps on champions for way too long like Roman Reigns, Gunther and The USO's.... are now spinning the gang mentality of the 90's NWO, DX and others to see what sticks against the wall.   I hope it ends with Survivor Series but not counting on it.

The Judgement Day, Bloodline, LWO, Damage CTRL are all ganged up.

This could TURN out to hold a bunch of different TURNING Storylines...

Like how about Drew McIntyre does an about face on the Judgement Day...  Jey Uso is also a turn character but seems too close to his last one.

Randy Orton's Return will be great but "The Viper" sometimes doesn't play well with others.   Rumors of CM Punk returning to the WWE are interesting but hope it doesn't happen.

As one of the big Premium Events... Survivor Series has a lot of fun possibilities!

Matches Scheduled:

Men's War Games:  Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, Seth Rollins and supposedly Randy Orton vs. The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest)

This could be the match of the night.  Cage matches can drag out but there will be some craziness.  With Rhea Ripley occupied with Zoey Stark there maybe some other interesting alignments that are set into place.  Like Jimmy Uso or ???  I think the team of Rhodes, Zayn, Uso, Rollins and Orton will pull it out...

Women's War Games:  Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, Shotzi, and Becky Lynch vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley, Kairi Sane, Asuka, and Iyo Sky)

This one should go to Flair, Belair, Shotzi and Lynch but I am guessing that Damage CTRL will work out a way to get the Win.  While setting the other team at eachother's throats till the next big event....

Women's World Championship Match: Zoey Stark vs. Rhea Ripley

Don't think Rhea is losing the belt this night or any other night till one of her old rivals steps up.

Intercontinental Championship:  The Miz vs. Gunther

Gunther is not my favorite but he does sit in the good graces of the WWE higher ups.  I would love to see The Miz shock the world but for some reason Gunther is shooting for a record with the IC Championship.  To me he is no Honky Tonk Man.

Carlito vs. Santos Escobar

This one is going to be weird.  To put Escobar over as a Heel I would say he needs to start beating people.   Carlito spits in the face of people who don't want to be cool.  So at least he can spit in Escobar's Face.   Just not sure he is walking out winner.   I will say Carlito wins.

Remember these are just my personal thoughts.  Bet with your wallets and not with your hearts.  Enjoy the Survivor Series Saturday Night.

I put these out the Wednesday before WWE Premium Events.  May all your favorite Superstars Win...

Oh, how I missed you!

Prior to today, it's been about a month since I have had the joy of riding my old quad. I took the Honda to a friend who knows his stuff for some miscellaneous repairs and maintenance. We got a new axle, put some work into the motor, and fixed my brakes among other things. The bike is a lot happier now, and also a ton less sketchy. All that was holding my rear hubs on were cotter pins, for example. So yeah, she needed some TLC and that's what she got!

After taking the ATV home, it was ripping time. I tore it up out there running the quad hard. Nothing broke and it all felt so good! It's an absolute thrill drifting around on some leaves in the woods right now, but I'm still getting used to how it rides.

All in all, I am so happy with the work that was done and want to give a shoutout to Bill for making it happen. Now that my quad is together, I can put up signs for snow plowing and hopefully make some money this winter. Also, I'm now able to redirect my focus to this big buggy go kart project I've been tinkering with. I'll have to see where I'm sitting at financially after the holidays to know how much I can pour into it, but as it stands, I'm thoroughly stoked with my powersports status! It's all coming together.

It's a long weekend for us here at the station, so I'll be back with more blogs for you come next week. Thanks for tuning in to WQMX and have a happy Thanksgiving!

What is your tradition on Thanksgiving?

Most people eat A LOT of food and then settle in to watch football. This is all after many people also watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade from New York that morning. I will say I have never been a person into parades. I find them boring to watch - especially on TV!

When it comes to food, I try to keep myself in check so I don't over eat and feel like crap the rest of the day. As for football, I am not one for the NFL, so I prefer to watch a college game. I generally spend the afternoon TRYING to stay awake after eating. Keep in mind, this is even watching what I take in to try to not pass out after the big meal.

I almost always fall asleep for a couple hours, wake up groggy, maybe fall asleep again, wake up, try to play a game with family, then go home before I fall asleep yet again! Happy Thanksgiving!

Why Dodge it when you can Ram it!

It's no secret I love trucks. I'll stop and stare and throw a thumbs up towards a sweet one out on the road any time, and I'm committed to finding a decent little 4x4 for my next daily. I was born and raised on Chevrolet; my love for them runs deep. I don't have any tattoos, but the bowtie is at the top of my list if I ever did.

Anyways, with as much as I love Chevy trucks, I recently learned about Chris Stapleton's factory custom Ram 2500 HD, and I just love it. I claimed in a recent blog, "I could count on my fingers how many four-door vehicles I would be enthused about driving, and nowhere on that list is a truck." Welp, I was dead wrong and likely a little dramatic. This one right here is certainly an exception.

The truck is dubbed the "Traveler" and has retro-inspired design elements especially influenced by the 1979 Dodge Ram Palomino. From the iconic Ram's Head hood ornament to the chromed-out front end to the pinstripes to the wheels and tires, this truck screams late 70's/early 80's vibes. That's definitely my favorite era of Dodge trucks, though I like most of them prior to Ram Trucks becoming its own brand in 2009. Ram went from the name of the model to the name of the make, essentially. They are now under the Stellantis brand's umbrella alongside the rest of the Chrystler family, Fiat, and many other automakers.

As much as I'd love to, I couldn't afford the gas it takes to drive a truck like this; let alone the monthly payments! Even if you could, you can't get this particular one. It's a special one-of-kind pickup, custom made to Stapleton's wishes inside and out. The headrests, for example, feature a plaid that is the same as he wore on the cover of his first album. The truck was built back in 2022 to promote his new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Like Toby Ketih and Ford, Chris Stapleton and Ram have developed a strong relationship through the years to their mutual benefit.

Now that we're on the topic, I'm very much interested in discovering which brands our favorite country music stars have in their driveways. I'll have to do some extensive research beforehand, but keep a lookout for a future blog on the topic. As always, thank you for reading!

I went to a fight...

and a hockey game broke out! LOL! That old dad joke isn't so true anymore. Over the weekend, I had a great time at Saturday night's Monsters game against the Rochester Americans. It has been a few years since I have been to a hockey game. The game has changed a bit.

It took until almost the very end of the 1st period for either team to get the first penalty! I don't think the first fight was until the 2nd period...if you can call them fights anymore. It used to always be that the refs would wait until the players were down on the ice and then try to break it up. NOW, they are in there breaking up the fight immediately. BORING!!!! haha

Still, it was a great night of hockey fun at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. I recommend going if you have a family. It's a great night out, and you can get in for a very decent price too.

WYNN - BROWNS - When You Do Things Right

SW small Logo The Browns are 7-3 and it's no accident.  In total they've played great defense, won at home, and have handled themselves very differently than the past couple seasons.  With winnable games up the road, we are poised to play in the playoffs or make a run at them.  It's been a while since Sunday's have been this much fun in the fall.

I've been hard on Kevin Stefanski and it's been warranted.  But because of recent circumstances he has been forced to handle himself differently on game day.  I have no idea if he's happy about it, but it's sure working.  He has surrounded himself with two of the best assistant coaches in the league.  Defensive genius Jim Schwartz and Offensive Line guru, Bill Callahan. Both former head coaches and both held in the highest esteem around the NFL and they are as needed as any assistants in the league this year.  As much as young head coaches around the NFL who are like Stefanski may not want to admit, these two elements are the backbone of any successful team.  When you're strong on defense and the offensive line, you're competitive.  That's just flat out reality in any era or level of football.

Strangely, the limitations Stefanski is dealing with have made him a far better head coach.  He's finally learned that you just can't chuck the ball all over the yard to win games.  You must do what it takes to win on the day in front of you, and that's finally hitting home.  By being limited, it has made his decision making so much better, as he has finally humbled himself by not trying to reinvent the NFL.  We don't go for every fourth down, or pass up field goals, do stupid razzle dazzle plays of his past, or put players and the team in avoidable situations.  He's understanding the intangibles better too, like the stadium environment, and opponents strengths and ours.  Having faith in your defense makes a lot of things easier. With our current situation, we must win by playing first class defense, and control the line of scrimmage on offense.  Run the ball, and be choosy on the passing game., and not putting your young QB in a position to fail when there are options.  When you do things right, the right thing generally happens.

I have always believed that building a great defense first  -  makes you competitive when building or rebuilding a team, plus it's easier to assemble.  We didn't think that was important for a few years.   We thought that scoring 100 points a game was the key, but this year around the NFL defense is ruling the day.  I know Stefanski is a good offensive mind, and I'm sure it's been a hard pill to choke down having other coaches position players making all the difference, but winning is all that matters. Win ugly and that's what we are doing.  His famous quote from last year, "No one plays smash mouth football anymore"  is now his bread and butter because that's all we can really do right now.  But give him credit, this season he's gotten himself off the hot seat and has guided his team to this place.

I've also seen more emotion from him this season, and he doesn't appear so aloof and solitary.  I think Schwartz may have a lot to do with that.  Now that there is a proven formula to win, it's up to Stefanski to remain patient and know that he has a path to victory.  I think the Seattle loss made a huge impact on him.  Because his decisions alone blew that game, and something tells me for the first time he may have admitted that to himself on a dark nighttime 5 hour flight home.  Because things have been better on the sidelines ever since.  I don't know how far we can go with our QB situation, but I know we can compete with anyone, and he plays a critical part in it.

Ironic isn't it?  The limitations that Stefanski is currently being forced to deal with, have somehow made things for the Browns more limitless.

Go Browns!
