Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again -  1978

SW small Logo  Again, released before my time in Country Radio, but this song for Dolly was a big time game changer.  She recorded dozens of albums before and after this. But this album and single took her to the next level.  This song was a 5 week number one, and a very short time after this song, Dolly was more than a country singer, she became a pop culture icon and legend.  This was a big pop hit as well and introduced Dolly to millions of new fans.  I also feel this song was very important for us, as it predated Urban Cowboy and helped show the world that country was more than what many may have thought before. (Read - Three Big Songs, Three Great Women). In the years ahead Dolly became a movie star, a star of stage, and a TV star with her own show.  Dolly had a nice run though the 1980's and beyond, and this song and album set that into a higher gear.  This is timeless, it still sounds great, and to me is among the perfect examples of "pop country."  A wonderfully done uptempo, vulnerable love song, that wasn't too far from center.  Vulnerability, Dolly's incredible and unmatched calling card.

WYNN - Eat Of The Week!

I know, I know, salmon, right?  While I lean more towards pork, beef and chicken, when salmon is done right I do like it. Windy makes it darn good, and I love that.  I'm not good a cooking it either.  But, when salmon is done right, it's right.

Try this, it's different and it's delicious!

National Cereal Day

Tuesday was National Cereal Day. The most popular in the country is...Cheerios. Yes, a bowl of Honeynut Cheerios is often my breakfast most mornings anymore, but I have had a few other go-to cereals throught the years.

I have always loved:

1. Cinnamon Toast Crunch

2. Count Chocula

3. Frosted Flakes

4. Fruit Loops

5. Cookie Crisp

When I was young, my brothers were big fans of Cap'n Crunch. One Saturday morning I decided I'd try some. WOW, that did not turn out well! lol. I took one bite and I was done -I couldn't stand the taste...kinda like Peeps!

Whether you are a regular connoisseur or just a here-and-there grazer, Happy National Cereal Day :)

Oscars Week: Tár

The second film I watched this week to prepare for the Oscars was Tár. This is a psychological drama about a maestro named Lydia Tár, and the unraveling of her actions as she prepares for a live recording of a piece. This probably wouldn't be something I would seek out in theaters, but that's what I love about the Oscars, it puts things on your radar.

I really liked this film. It's stylish, raw, refined, and Cate Blanchet performs extremely well. The editing is well done and helps tell the story, as it should. As a former musician it wasn't really hard for me to follow along, but I'm almost certain if you're not musically inclined you'll be able to follow along. The way Lydia presents herself, from her clothes to her ideals, is a kind of shield that she wears in this modern world, and attempts to protect her from the secrets she hides.

No major gripes with this one, there are times it feels slow and the ending feels like it takes forever, but overall the longer scenes are never boring, and the story is interesting overall. Probably an 8/10 for this one as well.

I hope you'll follow along this week as I catch up on all of the best picture nominees!

Whenever there is a natural disaster, everyone scrambles to make sure people affected are taken care of with supplies they need. Often times, pets can kind of get overlooked - that's where Miranda Lambert comes in!

She has teamed up with Tractor Supply Company to launch her "Relief for Rescues" fund to provide support for animal shelter pets after natural disasters or after they're rescued from hoarding situations. This is another arm of her MuttNation Foundation.

Miranda started MuttNation with her mother in 2009, and was in Houston in 2017 after Hurricane Harvey helping to rescue and transport animals. It's work that is very important to her and is definitely a cause I personally can get behind 100%. Way to go, Miranda!

Oscars Week: Avatar: The Way of Water

This Sunday is the Oscars, and I'm going to catch up on all of the Best Picture Nominees I haven't seen yet with a different movie each day this week! Today I saw Avatar: The Way of Water.

Technically this was a double feature, I watched the first one again this morning before I went to the movies. I never actually finished it the first time I watched it, since I was on a plane. But it was a lot better and more action packed then I remembered!

Now onto The Way of Water. I liked this one a lot more than I thought I would! First of all it's gorgeous, which isn't surprising since the first film literally broke new ground. The story was really interesting for the most part, and the characters, new and old, were really fleshed out. I think the overall message of the film was also well said. I think it's definitely a strong contender for Best Picture.

I do have a few gripes, the main being (spoilers) bringing back the main villain after killing him off in the first one. I think it was a little redundant, and that there was definitely an opportunity to introduce a new antagonist. It's also a tad long, and there is filler, but I only noticed once or twice. It's mostly to show the scope of this new part of the world we haven't seen before, and it really is breathtaking.

I'm sure the people who wanted to see this already have, but if you haven't yet, definitely give both films a watch! 8/10 for now. Make sure to catch tomorrow's review!

TMNT

So I have always loved 'The Turtles".   Seth Rogen is going to put his spin on this new edition.   He is definitely bringing help with the voices.  Jackie Chan, John Cena, Rose Byrne, Maya Ruldoph, Post Malone and Paul Rudd just to name a few...

The movie is out August 4th of this year.  The Teaser Trailer just dropped... it's animated and called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem here it is.

These are the stockings my mom bought Buttercup and I for Christmas this past year, and yes, as of March 6th they are still on the mantel! LOL

First, I think the hooks for them (especially the cat's) are really cute. Second, I've just been lazy to take them down and not sure where to store them so I remember where I put them. In my house lately cats toys, tools, etc seem to find a way to just disappear. I have NO IDEA where they go!!! It is so frustrating. So maybe I'm afraid I'll forget where I have put these stockings for this December.

Please realize my goal is to have them taken down this week. I definitely don't want them still up on the mantel at 4th of July! HAHA
