Son Of A Sinner was a huge hit for Jelly Roll on the country charts going number one. Waylon Jennings' grandson in many ways seems incredibly different than his grandad. But a deeper dive shows maybe not as much as first thought. Waylon came in from the outside and shook things up in country with a far newer sound, a far different look and attitude in his era, and he was not accepted right away - but of course things changed. Jelly Roll does the same. Both share the DNA of being good singers of "soul searching songs." Jelly Roll's first hit was a powerful autobiographical anthem, that was deeply personal and spoke to millions in similar situations. His new song does it again. Should be noted the eras are amazingly different as is country music overall, but there are some things that will always ring true in country and with country fans. As with Waylon, and now Jelly Roll, we should listen to the message first - before we do anything else. It takes guts to be different. Incredibly honest, vulnerable and powerful. - I Need A Favor

Happy Valentine's Eve!!! Tomorrow is a big day. Hearts will be full and hopefully no hearts broken!
Sure the elaborate gifts and sentimental ideas are huge.
If it is flowers, chocolates, jewelry or just a romantic dinner. Sometimes the big elaborate is too much or something you can't afford.
Truth be told, everyone has to eat. Instead of going out to dinner, grab a recipe and try it as a couple.
"Those that make a recipe together, stay together" type stuff. Just have a fire extinguisher handy incase things get too hot!!! HAHA!!
If it is a success the next time you make the dish or have it out at a restaurant it might take you back to a Valentine's you will never forget.
At least have some fun stories. If this will put you in the doghouse then just get the presents...
And from experience homemade coupon books usually don't work. Happy Valentine's Day.

Country has a long history of songs that bring listeners together from many formats that are just fun to listen to. These "guilty pleasures" songs that you may love privately, but not really want to admit in front of a bunch of people with varying musical tastes at the bonfire. I say go for it, it's a huge part of our history. Over a few articles in the coming weeks, I'm going to feature some Guilty Pleasure Songs from the last 43 years I've been in Country Radio. This is week two.
All of these songs were big hits during their time and run, so let's look back at a few this week. These will be fun revisit and hear again. Week 2 - Guilty Pleasure Songs Part One
No Order....
Brand New Girlfriend - Steve Holy - 2006
Steve Holy had some success before this song, that was very different than this song. He had songs like, The Hunger that I loved, but had marginal success. Good Morning Beautiful in 2001 was a big hit going number one. There was then a long distance between that and this. This song went number one in 2006 and was instantly loved by everyone who heard it. It's fun, and its generally silly message resonated with about everybody. There is always room for a song like this on the charts, where bonfire-goers can throw back a few and sing to their hearts content as loud as they want to. Fun song!
Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus - 1992
Yeah I know, you didn't like this song, no one did. That's why we all know every word and every lick. This album, Some Gave All, sold 20 million copies world wide. It also is the ONLY country debut album to debut at number one, and it stayed on the top ten album chart for 43 weeks. This song clearly went number one. I was the PD and Morning Personality at KLIK In Jefferson City when this song came out, and we were one of the first stations to play this. I heard it, and I knew it was different enough and had a chance to be a hit. This was passed on by the the Oak Ridge Boys, but ended up where it probably belonged.
Elvira - Oak Ridge Boys - 1981
So, the Oaks passed on Achy Breaky Heart and in years to follow, they openly admitted is was a major error. They didn't like the words "Achy Breaky" and had been recording lighter, fun songs for some time, and wanted different. Speaking of the former, this gigantic hit from 1981 went number one Country, and scored very high on the pop charts. This song had been around since 1966 and was a minor hit for writer, Dallas Frazier then, and Rodney Crowell did a version in 1978. But it took the Oaks and Richard Sterban's booming bass voice to make it known in every house on earth. This was on the charts when I was at WLRO in Lorain, Ohio where I played it before I got into country, and it was still on the charts when I was went to WOBL in Oberlin, Ohio IN Country.
I did not watch the game on Sunday. Didn't watch the doggies play, the half time show, go to a party, or anything else. HOWEVER... if you did partake, I hope you had a lot of fun! It's a big day for sports and food. Now comes the hard part for a lot of people - going to work or school on Monday! LOL.
Either way - if you plan to go to work or call in ***cough cough "sick" cough cough*** good luck on getting through the day after :)

Ernest released his sophomore album Flower Shops (The Album) last year that included 11 tracks. Today he released Flower Shops: The Album Two Dozen Roses which includes 13 new tracks for a total of 24 tracks on the deluxe album!
Chase Rice released his sixth studio album I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell, the albums title is a nod to two of the songs on the new album.
Tonight I drop the best album of my career. If that sounds cocky I’m sorry, I don’t mean it that way. This one just took a lot out of me. Hates in the title but love is the theme. I’ve learned a lot from so many of my screw ups, and this is just the start of that.

Matt Stell also released his six-track EP today called One Of Us. It features three songs that Matt co-wrote and includes his current single "Man Made". On socia media Matt eluded to possibly releasing some more music in addition to this new EP, we'll keep you posted!
Happy listening!
My mom and I had some business to attend to on Thursday afternoon. Once we were done, we wanted dinner. We chose to go to one of our all time favorites...Luigi's!
Their food is delicious! For several years now I have gotten a pizza with pepperoni and sausage. However, when I was younger I would always get the lasagna. I had forgotten how good that is. I tried it again a couple months ago and have been on a Luigi's lasagna kick lately.
Don't forget the bread! Plus I almost always get a salad with cheese - that's a MUST!
They will always be a staple on my list of places to eat.
I'm just going to speak this into the Football-verse...
Tonight at the NFL Honors during Big Game Week! There will be many awards handed out...
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class that is heading to Canton in 2023 will be announced tonight also.
Now there are a ton of deserving names on the lengthy list of nominees. I think, there is a no-brainer/lock among those names.
Joe Thomas, The Browns Iron-man Lineman has to be atop the list!
Sure he was #73 but the number 10,363 the amount of consecutive snaps AS A LINEMAN is the number of Legend.
Now Thomas maybe missing the Playoff and Superbowl appearances but let's face it that isn't his fault.
With the merry-go-round of QB's he protected he allowed just 30 sacks in 6,680 pass-block snaps...
I don't think I am alone wanting to see Joe Thomas in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will get the nod tonight.
Good Luck, Joe. Enjoy the Gold Jacket, see you in Canton!
Today's trailer is brand spanking new: Air. The story follows Nike as they try to court rookie Michael Jordan for a new shoe line. Now I'm not a huge basketball fan (although I'm sure we're ALL proud of Lebron right now!) but I was a fan of Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers Dynasty. And the trailer does look promising! It has big stars like Matt Dameon and Viola Davis, and Ben Affleak is directing and starring in it. Should be an interesting ride! Check out the trailer below.
