Eric Matthews
Born and raised in the Akron area, Eric knew from an early age he wanted to work in radio. After high school he went on to The University of Toledo and graduated with a degree in Broadcast Communications.
After graduating from The Ohio Center for Broadcasting, Eric joined Rubber City Radio Group in 2013 as a Sports Producer for 1590 WAKR. He added on-air duties at WQMX in December 2018 and became the weekday overnight personality in December 2019. Currently, you can hear Eric weekday evenings from 7pm - Midnight!
Eric also taught Drivers Education to high school students across Northeast Ohio for 4 years. In his spare time he loves to travel and spend time with family and friends. He is also a huge Guardians, Cavs, and college football fan. A huge animal lover, Eric has 1 cat named Buttercup.
For many communities (including my neighborhood), trick or treat for kids is this weekend. I'm all ready to go! I went to the grocery store this past weekend and stocked up with a 125 piece variety pack. Hopefully I get at least that many kids coming by my house to get rid of inventory. I also bought a smaller bag in case, which I hope I have the will power to bring whatever is left…

This afternoon I woke up to the extremely sad news that actor/comedian Leslie Jordan had died in a car accident. Apparently he suffered a medical emergency while driving. He was such a funny guy who could always make you laugh with his very quick wit. The last two houses in Downtown Akron are being torn down this coming Monday, October 24th. They were built in the 1890s and are owned by St Bernard Catholic Church (which is a BEAUTIFUL church inside if you've never been). So it ended tonight. The Guardians fell to the Yankees in Game 5 of the ALCS 5-1. As we are so used to saying as Cleveland sports fans - "There's always next year." It is of course the season for scary movies. On Sunday, I watched "Halloween Ends". This is supposedly the final in the series that goes back 44 years to 1978. Earlier this week we lost another entertainment legend, Angela Lansbury. She was 96 years old...just 5 days away from her 97th birthday! What a career she had. So I saved the best part of vacation for last - the Whale Watch Cruise! OH. MY. GOD. was this SPECTACULAR! We went on a 4 hour whale watch cruise out of Boston Harbor to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. We saw A LOT of Humpback Whales...we were told that there were 60-80 around our boat!
