Listen and then tell me what you think

Keep It or Kick It is back once again tonight! During the New @ Nine, I'll be featuring the song "Don't Let The Old Man In" by Toby Keith. Keith is planning to re-release the track after his performance at the People's Choice Country Awards.

We will give it a listen shortly after 9:00 and then it'll be time for you to call or text me on the Cricket Wireless Text Line and tell me what you think of the song.

Thanks for your participation!

Halloween Costumes

As always, I have no idea what to be for Halloween. I have had a reminder on my phone for about two months now to think of my costume, and now it's the 11th hour. There are surely going to be plenty of costume parties and other spooky celebrations this weekend, and I have been invited to one Saturday evening. I just don't know what to wear!

My problem is that I have really long hair for a guy. I'm restricted to costumes that work with this fact like Aquaman, The Dude, Thor, The Edge, or Captain Jack Sparrow. It's either something like this or a generic or abstract idea, like a Vampire or a box of cereal respectively. Now that I'm writing this I realize I actually do have a good amount of options, but they still pale in comparison to those with a more typical cut. I know they make bald caps and whatnot, but I can hardly put my hair into a ponytail, let alone figure out how to make a cap look at all believable. I also cannot presume that they are comfortable to wear.

Anyhoo, have fun this weekend and please be safe!

My Top Ten: Favorite Movie Cars!

At most any given moment, I've got cars on the brain. I will halt a conversation, gasp, and point as if I saw a pig flying through the air whenever I see something sweet on the road. I've caused drivers to worry that danger is impending with how intensely I have been captivated by an automobile. I love classic cars, big trucks, little trucks, sports cars, luxury vehicles, muscle cars, vans, wagons, off-roaders, tuners, and more; but I'm especially excited when I see a movie car!

There are so many examples of cool movie cars, so as always, it's been difficult to narrow down this list to just ten. Certain cars on this list I would drive daily, whilst others I wouldn't want to get a single rain drop on. We'll go into this with the assumption that I would own and regularly drive these cars, to car shows at a minimum. For this list, I'm talking about movie and not TV cars, and vehicles that are physically real as props or otherwise. Without further ado, here's my top ten movie cars!

10. Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond)

9. Brian's Supra (The Fast and the Furious)

8. Plymouth Belvedere GTX (Tommy Boy)

7. Batmobile, Tumbler Rendition (Batman)

6. The Mystery Machine (Scooby Doo)

5. Toyota 4x4 Extra Cab Pickup (Back to the Future)

4. Bumblebee (Transformers)

3. Dom's Charger (The Fast and the Furious)

2. Trans Am (Smokey and the Bandit)

1. The General Lee (The Dukes of Hazzard)

Yeeeeeee-haw! Do you have a favorite movie car? And what did I forget? I'd love to hear what you think about it! You can reach me at the WQMX studio on our phone or text line sponsored by Cricket Wireless at 330-370-2000. I'm in live and local weekdays from Midnight-5am, so if it's outside of my hours, just drop a text message and I'll be sure to see it. Thanks for reading!

Scratching My Head

Recently I've been getting back into watching one of my all-time favorite shows, The Simpsons. I picked back up around season 7, a point in the series where I think they were putting out some of the best episodes. Earlier ones are less visually appealing and include some references I don't understand, and anything past season 15 or so is a hollow shell of what once was. They removed some characters and made the show more family-friendly, undermining the nature of it, in my honest opinion. Basically, anything before The Simpson's Hit and Run (2003) video game was released is golden, and that which came after is hit or miss.

Now that I've made my position clear, let's get into the meat-and-potatoes of this blog. Watching these early episodes is like opening a window into the past with the references and comedy held within. It's super cool, but every now and then I come across some stuff I don't understand. It's often a dated joke or culturally irrelevent observation. Those I just move past, but there is something recurring which I can no longer ignore. If it was once or twice, no big deal. This however, I've noticed in multiple episodes across some of the early seasons.

What I'm talking about is the use of "an" instead of "a." The show's TV reporter Kent Brockman is the primary culprit, but I've heard it from several characters. Let me give you an example. Normally, I would say, "give a history lesson." I've noticed that they commonly say something to the effect of, "give an history lesson."

I'm not sure if this is a certain dialect or a form of language that has fallen out of fashion, but I am big time confused. I like to think I have a solid grapple on grammar and proper language arts, but I just can't figure out why they are saying this or what the rules are for it. Like, is it just hi- words? Of course words with ho- beginnings such as honest would be prefaced by an an and not an a, but what is the line?

I'm in too deep!

Best Movies NEVER!!!

On many occasions I've said that there are way better movie critics at this station than I!

I have watched the movie about a killer tire on Netflix called Rubber.  Basically, I see weird movies I have to at least check out the trailer.

Like the... "The Winnie The Pooh" Horror Movie.  Or should I say Horr-ible Movie...

This popped up and made me laugh out loud, when I saw it on the screen on Hulu...

"I thought it was just going to be victims running way slowly and getting away easily.

I was wrong!  And so is this!!!

WYNN - CMML - Dwight Yoakam Birthday (Revisit)

Dwight Yoakam can be an acquired taste, but in the long run he sold a ton of albums and really helped change the direction of country when he hit the charts.  Great success with country music and Hollywood too, let's wish him a happy birthday this week!

WYNN - Forgotten Jukebox SD - 10

SheDaisy  - Little Goodbyes - 1999 -  (Album - The Whole SheBang)

SW small Logo You know, when they showed up there was a lot of buzz about them.  They visited to the WQMX studios and did an in-store appearance with us that was a big success.  I loved their sibling harmonies and this album was quite good. The three sisters were from Utah and fan liked THEM!  This was a top five hit and listeners loved this song.  They were Grammy nominated and there were five songs released from this album that had varying levels of success.  For the run of this album, they enjoyed a great deal of popularity.  Another one of their singles, I Will...But   was a song I really liked as it too was a top ten hit.  They, without any question had an unmistakable "catchiness" that was fun and easy to listen too.  But like I always say, not everyone is promised a 20 year run on the charts.  I recommend highly their amazing Christmas album which is absolutely terrific.  Maybe one of the best ever.  There were other albums too, but not the success of this one, which sold a million and is certified platinum.  Their chart run was short, but you love this song.

BTW  - "SheDaisy"  - Translated from the word shideezhí, a Navajo word meaning  -  "my little sister".
