Thinkin' Problem - David Ball - 1994
I can clearly remember the first time I heard this song. I was doing mornings at WPCV in Lakeland, Florida and the Music Director, Dave said to me and my co-host John, "You gotta hear this!" It started, and 10 seconds in I was hooked. I get it, this is not everyone's cup of tea. This is big-time traditional country by a regular guy who was about 40 at the time trying to get a foothold in country's most gigantic decade. But David Ball knows how to sing a country song. If real country is your thing, then this is a dream for you as this is a traditionalists work or art. The hook is so distinct, and so catchy, it stood out on the radio like any good song does. This was a big hit, going to #2 on the charts, #1 in Canada, sold over a million, and got a Grammy nomination as well. His chart run was not very long, but this album is magnificent, I feel it's one of the best of the 90's. I love a good honky-tonk bar song once in a while and this is one of the best ones ever. Take a listen, "You gotta hear this..."
