It's Cinco de Mayo!

Written by

Cinco de Mayo is more than eating tacos and drinking margaritas, but that is ok too! It is a traditional Mexican holiday this is now become more popular in the United States than in Mexico. The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, but it's mainly celebrated in Puebla, which is one of Mexico's 31 states. The holiday made it's way to America because many Mexican people came to the United States after the Mexican Civil War and settled in the southern states. They brought with them Cinco de Mayo.

Over years, the holiday changed and took off in this country. It lost the idea of celebrating the Mexican culture and became more the drinking and eating holiday we know now. So, here are a few ideas on how to celebrate and still have fun this year!

-Share the real story
-Support Mexican businesses
-Eat the food
