From my Country Music Memory Lane Series, today I will begin the Neon Nights Countdown. For the next eight weekdays, right up till show day Friday, August 12, I will feature one of the stars that will perform at Neon Nights 2022. I have done all of them, and you can read and re-familiarize yourself with these great acts.
If you don't yet have your tickets get them, as you will not want to miss this really terrific weekend at Clay's Park Jellystone park next weekend.
Today we will start with the opener on the first day, and add one each day for the next 8 days, and they will be in order of their appearance.
The Second Annual WQMX Golf Outing was a GREAT success at the beautiful Rain Tree Golf And Event Center yesterday, and we thank you so much. We raised a ton of money for NEOPAT and that's always a GREAT thing.
So many terrific sponsors and staffers to thank that all came together and worked tirelessly to make sure this was a fist class event, and it was. Our sales and promotion staffs are amazing people who do great work.
It is so fun to have so many new events the past couple of years to hang out with you like this, and the WQMX Bowling League and the new Bosom Buddies we have for you in October at the Akron Civic Theater. And we thank you for supporting us and the amazing LOCAL CHARITIES we work with.
Sarah and I thank you and all involved - on behalf of all of us at WQMX!
Dierks Bentley released his new single "Gold" today, it is the lead track from his upcoming tenth studio album which is set to arrive early next year. His new song is about gratitude, presence and the treasures to be found in the moment that you are in.
“2020 was a chance for me to give my guitar and the road a little rest. It gave me the chance to spend a lot more time adventuring outdoors with family and friends, but also alone. It also gave me time to reset and rekindle my love of Country music and a lot of the types of songs and sounds that I fell in love with when I first got to Nashville,” explained Dierks in a press release. “I think you’ll hear that in this first track, but it carries across the whole album.”

If you watched American Song Contest you will recognize country newcomer Tyler Braden, who represented the state of Tennessee and was a semi-finalist. His debut radio single "Try Losing One" is about the universal feeling of a shattered heart and love lost. The song, which is featured on his debut project 'What Do They Know (WDTK)' was co-written by Tyler along with Brian Davis and Adam Wood.
Tyler said in a press release, “I think we did what we try to do in every write… We found a new angle on an age-old story. We wanted to keep the production simple, and Adam (Wood) and Randy Montana absolutely nailed it. The music supports the lyrics, the meaning, and the feel of the song. It builds on emotion and really hits you hard. I’m so proud of this one and so lucky to have such talent involved.”
A few months ago in addition to the Country Music Memory Lane articles I write and post on Thursdays, I also started the Mega-Star Series. These are stars in country over the last 42 years, (since I have been in country radio), that are the most popular and gave us big gifts far beyond just the music. I have played, or still play all these artists every day on the air.
These are the biggest stars since 1980, so this week, let's recap in case you missed them the first time around. Get comfy, grab a coffee, get your ear buds on to listen to some of the best music of the past few decades.
Here is the list - So Far!
There will be more and if your favorite is not on this list yet, they will be in time. There is no order or ranking.
Thanks for reading and listening!
