This week we teed it up at one of the staples of the Dewsweeper Tour, Valleaire in northern Medina County in Hinckley. Yes, a tornado went through this course a few weeks back, but they are no worse for the wear, and are ready for you. Valleaire is a modest facility that is run on Sunday mornings by a wonderful woman named, Cindy who always treats us very well, and makes us feel welcome. This morning was no exception.
Valleaire is a course of moderate length, with a fair amount of sand, and some, but not a lot of water but is challenging for anyone. There are tons of tree lined fairways to sloped greens that make this a course where straight is best overall. This is also a course that gives you some short 4's and 5's to score on as well. But, you need to take advantage of those, because when the going gets tough here, this can be very difficult. So scoring where you should is a must.
This is a course that has gone through a few positive changes over the past couple of years. First, the 9's have been flipped, 1 is now 10 and 10 is 1. Speeds play up. Also, what is now number 18, a wonderful par 3 is being rebuilt with a new elevated tee box that should be done soon. But the tee you'll hit on now, is very tough to a green over the water. And the tornado that went through here, has done some damage, but the course is ready for you.
This was the round of Joe Red. Red hit the ball well all day long, and played a very consistent round. A great mix of nice drives, well thought our approach shots, and decent putting. Overall very solid 18 holes as he finally put is all together for a very nice 81.
Tex drove the ball well, but had some second shot problems and that prevented him from playing as well as he could have. But he battled all day long, and kept the number humble, as this is not an easy golf course, for a 99 on the day.
Beef played an incredible first 10 holes, with 4 birdies on the first 10. Then a struggle on the last 8, gave him a nice 83 on the day. But his blistering 38 on the front had him in a positionto score better. But man, was he hitting the ball well early.
Beef In the flower box - last year - and almost this year!
I never got on a roll this week. I played just bad enough not to score well. I didn't do anything really bad, just nothing really good, for an 89 on the day. With 13 bogeys. At least I was consistent. No bad numbers, just not very many good ones.
Course Highlights? Number 1, 435 yard par 4, to a raised and sloped green. Number 9, long and tough par 4, creek at the landing area to a raised green. Number 10, driveable par 4, 275 yard uphill. Number 11, long and tough par 4, 430 yards to a hard to hit green. Number 12, a long and tough par 5, 535 yards. Plays very long.
Valleaire is a good place to play, but hit it straight. Trees and rough can make a tough round. Greens are good, and all is really fun at Valleaire.
Joe Red - 81
Beef - 83
Wynn - 89
Tex -- 99
Next week we tee is up at Mallard Creek in Columbia Station, a nice 36 hole track.
