The debate continues as to whether “perfection” is attainable. Studying diligently to attain the highest score on a test, performing with exact precision, or meticulously completing a project are examples of the pressures one might impose on himself to achieve excellence. So, is settling for “great” second best? Sometimes what holds us back from being truly great is our obsession with perfection.

Stetson is not perfect but he is one great dog. With very limited eye sight, the images he sees are minimal. In fact, we believe he sees with his heart. And, being unique is better than being perfect. Because many see him as imperfect, his length of stay in the shelter has been far too long. He will learn his way around a home just as he has learned to navigate the shelter. He loves his treats, is content to lie on his blanket, and is always happy to hear a visitor enter his room. This boy wants to go home. Might you have the room in your home and your heart for this boy? Don’t delay … let’s end his days in the shelter today.

Labels are a valuable tool. Manufacturers use them daily as a requirement to do business. Draping bottles and cans, and even signage, they protect us from ourselves. But, labels can be a bad thing too. When we label something incorrectly, the product is not represented accurately; therefore, is ineffective or harmful in its use. Over time, the reputation of the goods, or services, is diminished and the value is lost from the mistake of mislabeling.

The Pit Bull breed has been grossly mislabeled. In fact, do you remember Petey from the Lil’ Rascals? He was the Golden Retriever of that day and he was a Bull Terrier! Dogs are a product of their environment. If treated cruelly, or praised for harsh behaviors, a canine will use his “pearly whites.” If treated with kindness and shown the love of humanity, they will reward you in the same way.
