Red Cross Acts of Courage

The American Red Cross annually presents the Acts of Courage Awards to those residents of Summit County who have acted courageously and selflessly in a time of emergency. Often at great risk and sacrifice to their own personal safety, comfort, and well-being, these ordinary individuals have acted in a heroic manner by reaching out to help others in times of greatest need. During the ceremony, the Red Cross will also present retired Deputy Mayor for the City of Akron, Mr. Dave Lieberth, with the H. Peter Burg Community Leadership Award for his commendable, constant and compassionate service in our local community.

The concept for the Acts of Courage Awards grew out of a desire to develop a special event that is closely related to the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross. What better way to celebrate this spirit of humanitarianism than by honoring those individuals who have shown courage, kindness and unselfish character by their acts of heroism.
