Leah

Hi, I'm Leah and I'm in foster so if you would like to meet me then call the shelter and my foster mom can bring me to see you! :)

From Leah’s foster family:

Perhaps the best part about Leah is that she is grateful. From the moment we brought her home as a foster, she has looked at us and our house as a gift. We can tell that at one time she has been in a home and was used to a couch. The second we get our “stern” voices, Leah stops whatever she is doing that we don’t like. The things we don’t like and are improving on are mouthing, jumping, and pulling on a the leash. These habits were very bad in the shelter, and her hyperactivity made me think she was going to destroy our home, but she hasn’t and won’t. The mouthing on people has improved and when she forgets all we have to say is “aaahh aahh” and she starts giving kisses instead. The jumping is taking a turn and Leah tries so hard to be patient and sit, but her butt wiggles like she can’t control her happiness. Leah hasn’t had any accidents in our house as long as she is taken out regularly. She sleeps in her cage and goes right in at night, but I have slept with her on the couch and she curls up into a tiny ball and doesn’t move until you do. She gets along great with our 11 month old dog, Rusty who actually has more energy than her. We do believe that if she were to have a lifelong doggie friend, that dog would have to be submissive. Being around children is really up to the adopters… her mouthing does not hurt but it could scare small children who don’t know she’s playing. Leah is very food motivated and knows how to walk on a treadmill. Because she has so much energy, this skill could be very useful. Compared to how Leah was in the shelter environment, she is nothing like I expected her to be in our home. We love her to death and want to see her go to a forever home that sees what great potential she has, and loves her as much as she will love and appreciate you.

Leah will be back at the shelter April 1st or the 2nd. That (or any time before if you call ahead) would be a great time to come and meet her because she will be fresh with knowledge from being in foster :)
