Tips for More Relaxed New Year's Eve Party

If you love New Year's Eve but don't always love the high-maintenance parties that come along with them, here are some ideas for a more mellow, yet totally fun New Year's Eve party.

1. Set up a strict dress code: insist all your guests come in warm and comfy clothes!
2. Plan a movie night based around a theme, like Woody Allen films or “Star Wars” flicks. 
3. Host a potluck dinner, a potluck dessert, or break out the fondue pot. 
4. Play boardgames! If you can set up different board games in different rooms, all the better.  
5. If there’s drinking involved (and there probably will be), have a guest play unofficial security guard to make sure everyone either stays or calls a cab
6. If your party is all-ladies, ask everyone to bring gently used clothes/accessories and hold an informal clothing swap.
7. Use plastic champagne flutes and paper plates for minimal morning-after cleanup.
8. Ask everyone to bring their own playlist and swap-out the iPods all night long.
9. Party hats for all! Yes, even when playing the aforementioned Twister.
